Read this guide in full before beginning. Correct subfloor
preparation and an intact locking system determine the life and appearance
of the floor. This guide follows the resilient-flooring practices recognized
by the Resilient Floor Covering Institute (RFCI) and applicable ASTM
standards.
1. Before you begin
- Confirm the correct product, color, and quantity before opening cartons. Inspect each plank for visible damage or locking-profile defects.
- Add 7–10% extra material for cutting and waste (more for diagonal layouts).
- Work from multiple cartons at once to blend shade and pattern variation.
- Planks with damaged locking edges must not be installed.
2. Jobsite conditions
- The building must be enclosed and weather-tight, with HVAC operating continuously before installation.
- Maintain interior conditions of 60–85°F (15–29°C) during installation and occupancy.
- All wet trades must be complete and fully cured before installation begins.
- This SPC plank is suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, and below-grade spaces because the core is waterproof — the subfloor still must be flat and dry.
Waterproof is not the same as unlimited. Although the planks
are waterproof, surface moisture on top of the floor can still enter at seams
if left standing. Wipe up spills promptly. Do not install where hydrostatic
pressure or active leaks exist.
3. Acclimation
- Store cartons flat, in unopened condition, in the room of installation.
- Acclimate a minimum of 24–48 hours at 60–85°F before installation.
- Rigid-core SPC is dimensionally stable, but it must reach room temperature to lock and lay flat correctly.
4. Subfloor preparation
The subfloor must be clean, flat, dry, and sound. The installer is responsible for subfloor suitability.
| Requirement | Standard |
|---|---|
| Flatness | Within 3/16 in over 10 ft (or 1/8 in over 6 ft). Rigid core requires a flat base to protect the locking system. |
| Cleanliness | Free of dust, debris, paint, oil, adhesive residue, and curing compounds. |
| Soundness | Solidly fastened. Repair loose panels and damaged areas. Remove existing cushion-backed or loose-lay flooring. |
5. Moisture and pH
- Concrete: Test with an in-situ RH probe (ASTM F2170). Slab RH should not exceed 85% for floating installations; use a moisture-mitigation system for higher readings. Concrete must be fully cured.
- Wood subfloor: Must be dry, sound, and free of excess moisture.
- Record readings and keep them with the job records.
6. Approved installation method
Floating (click-lock)
The approved method for this product. Planks angle-and-lock together over a flat, dry subfloor. The 1 mm IXPE pad is factory-attached — do not add a second underlayment.
Do not glue this product down, nail it, or staple it. Do not
install a second pad, foam, or underlayment over the attached IXPE. Extra
cushion can break the locking profile and is not covered.
7. Expansion and movement
- Leave a 1/4–1/2 in expansion gap at all walls and vertical obstructions (columns, cabinets, pipes, transitions).
- Do not install tight to walls or fixed objects. Do not fasten a floating floor to the subfloor.
- Install heavy cabinets and islands on their own footing — not on top of a floating floor.
- Protect rigid-core LVP from sustained direct sunlight and heat; use blinds or window film in high-sun areas.
8. Laying the floor
- Establish a straight starting line parallel to the longest, straightest wall. Check square before the first row.
- Stagger end joints a minimum of 6–8 in between adjacent rows for a natural look and a stable floor.
- Engage the locking profile by angling the long side, then folding down and tapping the end joint with a tapping block.
- Confirm each joint is fully locked with no visible gap. Do not force a damaged profile.
- Cut the final row to width, maintaining the expansion gap. Undercut door casings for a clean finish.
9. Finishing
- Install matching T-molding, reducer, end cap, and stair nose at openings and changes in floor height.
- Cover the expansion gap with base shoe or quarter-round attached to the wall — never to the floor.
- Remove spacers, clean the floor, and install felt pads under furniture before use.
10. Care and maintenance
Do
- Sweep or vacuum on the hard-floor setting regularly.
- Wipe up spills promptly.
- Damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner approved for luxury vinyl.
- Use walk-off mats at entries and felt pads under furniture and chair legs.
- Use protective pads under rolling chairs and heavy appliances.
Do not
- Never use a steam mop.
- Do not use abrasive pads.
- Do not use wax or polish.
- Do not leave standing water on the floor.
This guide summarizes recognized resilient-flooring practice. Installation
should also follow the Resilient Floor Covering Institute (RFCI)
recommended practices, applicable ASTM standards (including F2170 for slab
moisture), the underlayment and accessory manufacturer instructions, and all
local building codes. Where instructions differ, the more stringent applies.
